Slow-Cooker Sticky Wings

From Stones River Market

This recipe came to me from Cook’s Country Magazine.

The standard approach of “add wings and sauce to slow cooker, turn on, and wait,” left us with flabby wings and a diluted sauce. Big surprise. We wanted moist wings, lacquered with a sweet yet tangy sauce—the stickier and messier, the better.

The ultimate combination of salty, sweet and crunchy. This recipe makes quite a bit, but is so easy!! My mom grew up making caramel corn for her family regularly, and we’ve been playing with our favorite family recipes, using sorghum in place of things like corn syrup, maple syrup, honey, and some of the white or brown sugar, with delicious results! Sorrel (rosella flower) jam

From Statesboro Market2Go

Roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa) is also called Florida cranberry, red sorrel, or Jamaica sorrel. The part of the plant that is edible are the calyces of the roselle flower which can be used to make a variety of jams, sauces, and teas.
Find more information about sorrel and its uses at the University of Florida Institute of Food & Agricultural Sciences.

The pectin in the recipe is obtained from boiling the interior buds of the rosella flowers. It is thus possible to make rosella jam with nothing but rosella buds and sugar. The pods have should be green as this indicates pectin is present.
